Ed has been in the insurance business since 1972.  In 1976 he went to work for the Rhulen Agency in Monticello, NY.  Through good fortune he was offered an opportunity to work in the firm’s children’s camp insurance specialty.  This was the beginning of a life long commitment to the field of camping, and to the safety and wellness of campers and staff.

Ed’s experience includes serving in various leadership and managerial positions at the Rhulen Agency, Frontier Insurance Company and Markel Insurance Company, all niche insurance underwriters.  At the present time, he is President of Schirick & Associates Insurance Brokers, Inc., an insurance broker and risk management consulting firm located in Monticello, New York a business he and Cathy Schirick started in 2001.
During his career Ed helped to manage and develop several insurance programs for businesses serving children.  This includes camps, child-care centers, private schools, and non-profit organizations serving youth.  He has presented workshops and seminars on a broad range of risk management and insurance topics at various local, regional, national and international conferences sponsored by the American Camp Association, Christian Camp and Conference Association, the Association of Camp Nurses and the Ontario Camps Association among others.  

In 1999 he was honored by the American Camping Association with the Hedley S. Dimock Award, in recognition of his significant support and contribution to the advancement of camping.  Ed is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and a Certified Risk Manager (CRM).    He is a Life Member of the American Camp Association, and a member of the CPCU Society and the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. 

Ed has written a column on Risk Management for Camping Magazine, since 1989.  He has also contributed articles to the Journal of Christian Camping, to ACA’s CampLine Newsletterand to ACN’s CompassPoint (I’m a Camp Nurse; Why Do I need to be concerned about Insurance? [2005]).

Ed has served on the ACA Virginias Section Board of Director’s and the Fund for Advancement of Camping.  He served as the Business Representative on ACA’s National Nominating Committee for several years.  He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Sullivan County (NY) Child Care Council, Inc., a resource and referral agency serving parents and child care providers.

Ed is married with three adult children and one grandchild.  He and his spouse Cathy live in Rock Hill, New York.
